If you’ve seen The Falcon and Winter Soldierseries on Disney+, then you already know Contessa. Thanks to the global pandemic that is still forcing us to sip our soda through our masks while at the movies, this character’s reveal changed spots. At the conclusion to Black Widow this weekend, we were both giggling when who should appear on screen but La Contessa Allegra de Fontaine herself, played to perfection by the hilarious and brilliant Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Seinfeld and Veep fame.

While she is now pretty well versed in the lore of Marvel Comics more recent history she knows that if she sees me giggling excitedly when someone delivers a cryptic line or makes a deep reference to an older piece of Marvel Comics history while watching these films, then something exciting is about to happen.

My wife and I watch these films together-we’ve been enjoying them as a couple ever since our earliest days of dating when we did a date-night to see Thor in theaters after having her watch the first two Iron Man movies and The Incredible Hulk on DVD. Marvel Studios keeps dangling those carrots and some of us keep running after them like the poor, fools the we are. But hey, cliched or not, they’re still a blast to see since they usually do a great or at the least, intriguing job at setting up what is to come. Over 10 years now and the MCU mid and end credits stingers have become almost as cliched as villains who twirl their mustache and divulge their ultimate plan to the hero. But don’t say we didn’t warn you! La Contessa… Unless you’re cool with spoilers, then keep reading. Go and catch up before you read any further.

It goes without saying that this piece comes with a whole, hefty load of spoilers for Marvel’s newest release.
